Jeanmarie Mayer received a B.S. in Chemistry from William Smith College in 1981. She then completed her M.D. degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in New York in 1985. She went on to complete her residency training in Internal Medicine at Hartford Hospital in Hartford, CT in 1989. From there, Dr. Mayer pursued a fellowship in Infectious Diseases at the University of Utah where she completed her training in 1993. She also spent one year training in Clinical Microbiology through the Department of Pathology at the University of Utah. Her research interests as a fellow involved Chlamydia trachomatis induced production of nitric oxide. Dr. Mayer continued this work as junior faculty at the VA Medical Center until 1995, and then as an Assistant Professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases at the Overton Brooks VAMC and LSUMC in Shreveport Louisiana in 1995. She returned to the University of Utah in 2004 where she joined the faculty in the Divisions of Clinical Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases. Dr. Mayer is the Associate Hospital Epidemiologist at the University Hospital and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Medical and Public Health Informatics. She is presently on the Clinical Track as an Assistant Professor of Medicine.
Research Intersets
She is primarily interested in electronic surveillance of healthcare acquired infections (HAI). Her current research encompasses the application of a geographical information system to enhance hospital wide infection control surveillance. Dr. Mayer also is the Chair of the HAI Users Group for the state of Utah, and is actively involved with setting standards and policy related to mandatory reporting of HAI in Utah.
